ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A crew from New York state is heading west to help battle wildfires.

Twenty employees and volunteers from the state Department of Environmental Conservation are departing Saturday to help where needed. Crews are battling wildfires in California, Montana and British Columbia.

The New York team includes state forest rangers and is expected to be out west for two weeks. Costs will be handled by the U.S. Forest Service.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the state is proud to help its neighbors out west.
