Severe thunderstorms hit areas south of Rochester

UPDATE AS OF 7:22 p.m. Sunday: Most Flash Flood warnings canceled. A flood warningremains in effect for parts of Ontario County until 7:00 a.m. Monday.

A very active weather pattern developed late Sunday afternoon which included a tornado warning at one point in the Canandaigua area. That warning expired at 3:30 p.m., but a severe thunderstorm warningwas continued until 4:30 p.m.

There were no immediate reports of a tornado actually touching down, but there were reports of roads being flooded in some areas.

flash flood warningwas issued for parts of Ontario County until 7pm on Sunday, with at least 2 inches of rain falling in a relatively short period of time.

There was aflash flood warning for parts of Livingston and Ontario Counties until 9pm Sunday. And a flash flood warning for Seneca and Yates Counties until 7:45 p.m. Sunday.

There was also a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Genesee and Wyoming Counties until 4:45 pm. And there was a flash flood warning for those two counties until 7:15 p.m. on Sunday.

There is also a lakeshore flood warning for Monroe and Orleans Counties until 8 a.m. on Monday.

This statement was issued Sunday by Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo:

The County's Office of Emergency Management will be closely monitoring the shoreline for flooding and will provide guidance and assistance to residents as conditions require.

Residents and businesses along the shoreline of Lake Ontario and its bays should be watchful and call 911 if a dangerous situation develops. Residents should also use caution around electricity if water floods or infiltrates structures.
